Discription

Case Studies in Therapeutic Recreation is a relatable, easy-to-read text that explains theory and provides opportunities to practice skills needed to become a successful recreational therapist. It focuses on problem-based learning, using 30 case studies to describe disabilities, diseases, and conditions often seen in recreation therapy practice. Each case study tells the story of a person living with a medical condition or disability. The case studies provide details about how a recreational therapist might encounter working with or for an individual, giving ample opportunity for students to practice their problem-solving skills. Case Studies in Therapeutic Recreation also describes the DENT and Rehab-CYCLE problem-solving models. Readers will learn the basic skills needed to conduct research and evaluate their findings as they incorporate this knowledge into evidence-based practice. With inclusion of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF) and evidence-based practice in therapeutic recreation, this textbook allows readers to put the information learned throughout their coursework into practice. Both authors have gained CTRS certification and teach at the higher education level. This book is intended for therapeutic recreation students who have completed most or all of the therapeutic recreation coursework before embarking on the final fieldwork experience. They can also use it as an additional resource when preparing for the certification examination given by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification. Therapeutic recreation faculty will also benefit from using Case Studies in Therapeutic Recreation in their coursework as in-class activities or as material for assignments. Practitioners will benefit from learning how to develop research questions, conduct evidence-based research, and practice applying the research to choose appropriate interventions.
