After 32 years Peter Marmorek stopped teaching high school. Gradually the hole that left in his life coalesced into a dog–like shape, and he decided Rui (a nine week old labradoodle) was exactly what he needed to fill it, despite his complete lack of knowledge about dogs. “The Year of Living Doggedly” blends both dark and light as Rui forces Peter to look deeply into himself and as simple guidelines on dog-training turn out to be quite inadequate to the complexities of this very real dog.
